Where the money goes

CASH GIFTS The number of cash gifts given to date is shown on our home page

We work alongside Clic Sargent and the Macmillan teams in Children's Cancer Hospitals & Young people's Cancer units. When one of their patients is given the devastating news that treatment is no longer curative, they aproach us with a Cash Gift Application. Because of this association there is no red tape- we send a cheque of 500 pounds back to the hospital within a couple of days-to be given immediately to the young person or the child's family.

This allows them to do something to brighten their days during this precious and difficult time. It particuarly helps young adults and those children who are aware of their prognosis, giving them back a little control when all seems lost......the money is their's to spend on anything they like!

There are now 15 hospitals providing the Cash Gift from Josies Dragonfly Trust to children and young people where treatment is no longer considered curative. We are now getting on average two or 3 Cash Gift requests each week although we given 15 Cash Gifts in one month alone

We can't give the remaining hospitals regular access to the Cash Gift as we just don't have the funds to support them. Sadly the children in those hospitals who would qualify for this special Gift cant wait. They do not have time.

We have given well over 350 Cash Gifts since we started. We gave 100 Cash Gifts in 2010 and expect this increased to arround 125 in 2011. Many more children across the UK will qualify in 2012 but we can't support them without the funds. Please help us give more of these deserving children and young people the chance to make one more happy memory.

Here are just a few examples of how the cash gift has made a difference to the last days or weeks of children and young people with cancer

ART & CRAFT BOXES

We also supply large boxes of Arts & Crafts supplies (usually weighing arround 14-15kg each) to all the Children's Cancer Specialist Hospitals across the UK at least twice a year. These boxes are very much appreciated by both the children & staff on the wards as it is difficult to keep children and young people amused when they spend so much time in hospital often having difficult & painfull treatment.

The boxes provide a welcome distraction and an opportunity to create something that gives a sence of achievement.

The 11th shipment of boxes full of exciting arts, crafts and activities was sent out in August 2011 and we are now getting boxes ready for our 12th delivery later in 2011.

These are the hospitals across the UK where children with cancer have benefited from the boxes of crafts and activities that we are sending out as often as possible.
